Why you should switch to paper pens

The hard facts

  • The USA uses 390 million plastic straws a day
  • American’s throw away an estimated 1.6 billion pens a year
  • It can take 2 weeks to degrade paper, but plastic around 300+ weeks
  • Out of all plastic ever produced since 1950, only 9% has been recycled
  • The majority of single-use plastic is sold to developing countries, where it’s burned or buried

Ecopens are easy to recycle

Typical pens like BIC can’t be thrown in a standard recycling bin, they need to be disposed of specifically. With an Ecopen Club pen, you can dispose of 95% – just split the ink from the paper and chuck it in the paper bin. It’s super easy! Did you know that one tonne of recycled office paper saves 9 barrels of oil or 60 pounds of air pollutants from being released?

Landfill is a major issue

In an ideal world, all pens would be recycled and re-used, but that just doesn’t happen.

In Australia alone, disposable pens add up to 700 tonnes of landfill each year. If all those pens were Ecopen Club pens, that landfill would be reduced to just 30 tonnes a year.

It’s time we went forwards, not backwards.

Help write the future of our planet

We did it with straws, let’s do it with pens. America throws away an estimated 1.6 billion pens a year. We can’t simply stick them in the recycling bin.

Let’s act now and help write the future of our planet – literally. It’s our mission to offer an affordable, sustainable and eco-friendly alternative. We also pledge to donate 5% of our profits to Planet Aid.
